Purpose of Role This position will assist the quality of all equine programming areas as well as assist the staff and day-to-day affairs of the equine program at Transformations Mending Fences.
Core
Responsibilities:
Create and maintain a therapeutic and educational environment for all participants.
Understand how to maintain PATH Intl.
/EFMHA Standards, including the care, management and humane treatment of the equine.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all equines participating in EFL/EFP sessions, and serve as the equine assistant during all equine/human interactions.
Collaborate with all members of the team (mental health professionals and equines) to meet the goals of the client's treatment plan.
Assist in designing appropriate exercises for clients.
Assist in overseeing the necessary care of the horses to make sure our horses are dewormed, trimmed, vaccinated on a regular basis and to make sure the horses utilized in the classes are conditioned and prepared promoting safety for the participants.
Communicate consistently with staff about changes in scheduling, participant health records/special needs, and horse use/special handling considerations.
Help maintain cleanliness of the barn.
Professional Experience, Essential Skills, and Knowledge Must have at least 3 to 5 years' experience teaching therapeutic riding.
Must have at least 5 years' equine management experience.
Bachelor's degree required.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of horsemanship and equine care.
Proficient computer skills including word, excel Certified PATH International instructor (Preferred) Is knowledgeable of Client rights and treats all clients with dignity and respect in a consistent manner; adheres to federal confidentiality standards (HIPAA).
Understand the principles of addiction and psychiatric treatment.
Proficient computer skills including using Word, Excel and EMR.
Ability to prioritize workload and work independently, and must be thorough and communicate effectively.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, and clients.
Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality laws.
Must be reliable and consistent with attendance and punctuality to work.
